Portland Jazz Composers Ensemble

Portland jazz ensemble that premiered Views of an Urban Volcano at Mt. Tabor Park's Caldera Amphitheater on September 1, 2023, for the 10th Montavilla Jazz Festival: a free concert of three pieces, by Cyrus Nabipoor, Kirsten Volness and James Powers, inspired by the extinct cinder cone, its people and the city. Montavilla Jazz commissioned and produced the works, and the two groups co-created and co-presented the concert. It says music in the parks is concentrated in central Portland, leaving east Portland with fewer concerts.
