Park history

Beginning in 2012, the Trust for Public Land (TPL) negotiated the purchase of the privately-owned 120-acre Colwood Golf Course. As part of TPL's efforts, the northern portion of the property (35 acres) was rezoned for industrial use in 2013. TPL purchased the other 85 acres of the property with the intent to sell it to the City of Portland to manage as open space. Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) and the Bureau of Environmental Services (BES) jointly purchased the 85 acres from TPL on March 28, 2014, after receiving approval from Portland City Council. PP&R operates 48 acres of the parcel as a golf facility for youth and adults. The remaining 37 acres are being restored as a natural area.

Following the City’s acquisition of the Colwood property, Colwood Golf Course re-opened as the new Colwood Golf Center and was transformed from an 18-hole golf course into an inclusive par-3, 9-hole course. The facility also includes an event room, outdoor event area, footgolf, an expansive golf practice area, and a scenic driving range ranked as a Top 50 Public Facility by the Golf Range association of America in 2019 and 2020.

Our reading of the calendar
Which facilities count as in season is our model of Portland's year (splash pads and wading pools in summer; fields, gardens and interactive fountains spring through fall; everything else year-round) — not the City's schedule. Check posted hours for pools, splash pads, and restrooms. From 16 weekly catalog snapshots (2026-06-11 to 2026-10-12). "Programs" are distinct titles; "sections" are the catalog's individual records — a swim level at one time slot for one week is one section. Complete through 2026-10; later months fill in as registration opens. Winter counts fill in when winter registration opens.

Condition across all assets

Citywide condition atlas

Across 5 assessed assets at this park, 60% are in poor or very-bad condition (rated 4–5). Pooled from the City's public assessment layers — buildings, bridges, playgrounds, courts, fields, fences, paths and amenities.

This count comes from the City's rated asset layers; the “Public assets” list below is a separate furnishings inventory, so its items and scores are counted separately and the two totals need not match.
