Celebrate Earth Day by bee-ing a pal to pollinators! We will be working together to install the garden beds around the sports court with native and pollinator-friendly plants. These plants will bloom, bringing new flowers, birds, butterflies, and bees to the park.

Activities will be suitable for youth and adults. Snacks and beverages provided.

Park history

In 1968, Highland School’s name was changed to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School, just weeks after Dr. King’s assassination. The effort was student-led and was formally recognized by a visit by Senator Edward Kennedy and dedication ceremony on May 9, 1968. When the adjacent park opened in 1979, it took on the name of King School Park. In 2022, the park name was formally corrected to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. School Park to align the name of the park with the school and properly honor Dr. King by using his honorific.

Repair ledger

Assessment dates are copied from the public Parks Amenities layer. Old dates mean this source does not publish a newer assessment for that asset, not that we have confirmed no newer internal inspection exists. PP&R does not publish itemized repair costs, so this ledger shows needs without dollar figures.

The public asset layer includes `PictureID` and `Hyper_pic`, but those values point to PP&R internal file-share paths, not public image URLs. Asset-level inspection photos need a PP&R export or public ArcGIS attachments before this app can render them.
