A finished park the City's inventory hasn't caught up with

PortlandMaps still lists this site as Gateway Green Property, and the City's asset inventory counts four items here. PP&R finished the park's final phase in October 2024. Its page describes a car-free park with biking and hiking trails, a jump line, a skills area, pump tracks and an accessible restroom, open 5am to 9pm. The one open repair item, "site stabilization on recent property purchase," was requested in fiscal 2015–16, soon after the City acquired the land in 2014.

In District 3, on the District 1 line

Most of the park's land is in District 3, so the Atlas counts it there. Its eastern edge runs along the District 1 boundary. The park is car-free, with more than one way in on foot or by bike. PP&R's project page says the final phase opened a new entry plaza by Gateway Transit Center, and that TriMet's Better Red work added a south entrance connecting directly to the transit center. The City's park page also describes the Hub entry, on the eastern side near the pump track, reached along the I-205 path; its directions don't yet mention the south entrance.

What the park was built for

Friends of Gateway Green, which helped design and fund the park, says it was meant to be more than a bike park: varied enough to be worth the trip for whole families, including people who don't ride. It pairs active recreation with restoring a degraded natural area; about 10 of its 25 acres are wooded environmental zone. Car-free and near the transit center, it is a safe place for children to learn to ride, and most of the bike features are built for novice and intermediate riders; the asphalt pump track was added so there is something to ride all year. Northwest Trail Alliance maintains the bike features under contract, and the Friends hold clean-ups in the warmer months and a BMX Day every July since 2023. The Friends now see their role as helping other groups, especially those working with young people in East Portland, use the park, and say the hardest part is getting people to make a first trip there.

Gateway Green Park provides much-needed off-road cycling and outdoor recreation opportunities in East Portland. Now accessible directly by public transit, there's a system of soft-surface and paved multi-use trails to explore the unique site and connect to the regional trail and cycling network.

Gateway Green trails and pump tracks are open for use during regular park hours (5am to 9pm). Please ride conscientiously and avoid damaging trails. Please do not ride wet or soft soil trails until they heal from recent construction.

This park is car-free! Access Gateway Green along the I-205 bike and pedestrian path, between Maywood Park and the Gateway Transit Center. The only public access points are by bike or foot along this path. Visitors should plan on a quarter to half a mile walk, roll, or ride along the I-205 Trail. Walkers and bicycle riders can reach the site via the Hub entry, on the eastern side of the park near the Pump Track.
